Baron Rojo de Castro-Castalia Eversince 1988 I have seen 29 litters be born at home, and each one I have enjoyed as if it were the very first! This because I always get deeply involved with the care of the mom and the puppies and helping them be born, keping them in my hand while they are still wet, letting that peculiar smell of the new-borns penetrate my lungs, watching them while they suckle, while they sleep, while they play, hugging them, kissing their pink bellies again and again and their soft paws too, letting them explore every inch of my body while I sit next the them and their dam inside the whelping box and allowing them to sleep in my lap if that is what they want when they are gorged with mummy’s milk... sharing that privacy and the magic of those tiny little beings that will for ever be invariably united to mine, is a real privilege. And there is a lot of magic to it. And a lot of grandeur as well. Names like “Aeneas”, “Ankara”, “Assyria”, “Ataturk”, Ámbar”, “Alhambra”, “Berrinche”, “Bicoca”, Blue Moon”, “Begum”, “Cáspita”, “Caray 580”, “Cachito Lindo”, “Por Pura Chiripa”, “Córcholisss”, “Ditirambo”, “Destornillador”, “Déspota”, “DDT”, “Fuego Vivo”, “Guirigay”, “Garota de Ipanema”, “Gurú”, “Garibaldi”, “Gardel”, “Hooker”, “Ikbira”, “Imshallah”, “Innui Isthar”, “Jalón Roa”, “J.J. It couldn’t be any other way! Each and all of them and many others are special to me, each with its own personality, its own funny little ways, its temperament, its tricks... an even though we are talking of well over 200 puppies, I cannot but feel happy and proud of the time spent watching for them, caring for them, bottlefeeding them at times, teaching them to eat their fist mouthfulls of baby pap without getting soaked and dirty all over, playing with them, helping them learn a myriad of new little things, sometimes even getting angry at them, laughing at their silly ideas, letting them understand what human love is all about by hugging them, petting them, kissing them and letting them crowl to my lap, teaching them to ride by car, to walk with collar and leash, to climb the stairs up and down, helping them get acquainted with the elder dogs and with the Pugs and the cats and the donkeys. Or else, taking them out to walk around the area and swim in the creek, letting them follow the scent of a rabbit or a fox and going nuts with all the surrounding novelties, getting along with the people that comes and visits and showing them how to be patient with young kids... Endless time devoted entirely to them, before they are ready to start their new lives with other families and some of them stay with us here to become the inheritors of a well established and solid tradition and transmitters also, one day, of their own quality to further generations of “CASTRO-CASTALIA” puppies, since they are the ones that help me build and perform the History itself of this prefix.
